Canada will have to manage without Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies for their World Cup opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12.

As expected, Davies will sit out the match as he continues to recover from the hamstring injury he suffered in action for Bayern Munich last month.

“The first game of the tournament, it won’t be possible,” Davies said on the Sid Seixeiro Show (via Toronto Sun).

“It hurts me to say it, but that’s the reality of injuries," he added.

“Of course I want to play in the World Cup. Of course I want to play in front of my family and friends and help the team as much as I can.

“Sometimes you have to sacrifice.”

Canada face Qatar on June 18 and Switzerland on June 24 in their remaining group-stage matches, with Davies' availability for either fixture still uncertain.
