Babbel: “Woltemade must take the next step himself”
Former Bayern defender Markus Babbel made the headlines yesterday with his strong words about Uli Hoeneß. The 52-year-old also shared his honest opinion about a player who has been the subject of a transfer between his old clubs.
"I'm really excited about that," said Babbel in an interview with sport.de. "Because VfB doesn't seem to want to sell him at the moment. A bit more has to happen, perhaps also from the player's side. He might have to tell them: 'Hey, don't be mad at me, but I really want to leave!' – We know these games.
"At the moment, at least, VfB gives an impression of strength. As Bayern, I’d say ‘He's worth no more than €20 million.’ As VfB Stuttgart, I’d say: ‘ €100 million’. I strongly believe that the base fee will be in the region of €60 million. Then there will be bonuses and similar payments, so the final figure will be between €70 and €80 million."
Stuttgart rejected Bayern’s first offer of €40 million in four installments, but the Rekordmeister are expected to come with an improved fee. Babbel played for both clubs, and he briefly coached Stuttgart 16 years ago.
