After sacking Erik ten Hag as head coach, Bayer Leverkusen are currently searching for a replacement.

According to Kicker, those in charge are already “very far along” in their bid to appoint a successor to the Dutchman.

The new coach is expected to have experience and a proven track record of success, ideally in the Bundesliga.

In addition, he should be capable of developing young players and establishing clear hierarchies within the squad.

Several names have been linked with the role, including former Tottenham coach Ange Postecoglou, but the current favorite is reportedly not among them.

While coaches like Raúl, Claudio Giráldez, and Iñigo Pérez are not in contention, the preferred candidate is said to speak good Spanish, according to Kicker.

Local outlet Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, meanwhile, has mentioned a new candidate: Sérgio Conceição, who most recently coached AC Milan.

Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro recently said he hopes the new coach will take charge of training for the first time next Tuesday.
