With Joshua Kimmich's contract with Bayern Munich set to expire at the end of the season, speculation over the Germany captain's future is rife.

The 29-year-old has been linked with Liverpool, while recent reports suggest he's opened talks with Real Madrid.

However, despite other top clubs reportedly showing an interest in Kimmich, Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund is optimistic that the club will be able to keep hold of him.

"I am positive that he will decide in favor of Bayern," Freund told Sky Germany, adding:

“This is a fundamental decision for his career. He knows exactly what he has at Bayern, with the club, the team and the coach. He feels very comfortable here.”

On when he expects a final decision to be made on Kimmich's future, Freund said:

"We don't have a specific timeframe, but we don't want to drag this out forever."

Kimmich himself was tight-lipped when asked to comment on the reports linking him with Real Madrid.

“To be honest, I can't give you an update every three days. There will be an update at some point, but I'm not going to comment on it every three days.”
