Bayern reach agreement with Spurs on Tel

Mathys Tel’s saga is about to be finalized with the Europa League champions set to sign the French youngster on a permanent deal.

Bayern Munich are prepared to let go of their promising striker as Mathys Tel edges closer to a permanent move to Tottenham Hotspur. The 20-year-old showed promise and determination to stay at the Rekordmeister, but his playing time was affected too much after Harry Kane’s signing.

At Spurs, the Rennes academy graduate mainly played as a left winger. Although he could only find the net three times and was an unused substitute in the club’s famous win over Manchester United, the Lillywhites liked what they saw during his time on loan.

Sky’s Florian Plettenberg now reports Spurs are on the verge of signing him for a €35m fixed fee. Adding the €10m loan fee, Bayern will make a big profit from their initial investment. However, the expectations were higher when the Bundesliga giants won the race for the signing of a promising striker who had only played 80 minutes of first-team football at Rennes.

Tel scored 16 goals for Bayern in two and a half years. He’s currently playing for France in the U21 Euros. Citing the poor league form, Tottenham replaced Ange Postecoglou with Brentford's Thomas Frank despite the Australian coach helping the club win a trophy for the first time in 17 years..
