Left-footed, operating from the right and with a tendency to cut inside and shoot, Bayern Munich star Michael Olise has been likened to club legend Arjen Robben.

The 42-year-old has now responded to those comparisons, saying he understands where they come from, but also making clear he is generally not a fan of players being compared.

“There are certainly some parallels. But you always have to be careful with comparisons. I don’t really like them, because every player has his own playing style,” Robben said in an interview posted on FC Bayern Munich’s website.

“Of course, there are certain things about us that are similar. But ultimately, he’s a different player to me. He just does it brilliantly. I’m really pleased about that and I can enjoy it too.”

Olise received glowing praise for his performance in Bayern Munich's 2-1 Champions League quarter-final first-leg win over Real Madrid last week, with Robben also impressed by the Frenchman.

“I thought he was very good. That’s obviously my position too. He was excellent. He played with energy and creativity and showed some great skill on the ball,” he said.

With 17 goals and 29 assists in 42 games so far this season, Olise will look to continue his excellent form when Bayern host Real Madrid in Wednesday’s second leg at the Allianz Arena.
