According to reports from local newspaper Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, Bayern Munich could have signed Marvin Schwäbe instead of Jonas Urbig in January.

Urbig, who entered the season as FC Köln’s first-choice, lost his starting place to Schwäbe early in the current campaign.

The 21-year-old talented shot-stopper would go on to pen a deal with the Bavarians for €7million during the winter transfer window.

However, it has become apparent that Bayern were in contact with Schwäbe before they approached Urbig.

One reason for this was Bayern goalkeeper coach Michael Rechner who had previously worked with Schwäbe at TSG Hoffenheim.

In the end, Schwäbe returned to goal tendering duty in late October and felt more than at home there so talks never materialised with Bayern.
