Despite delivering a disappointing performance against Switzerland yesterday, Leroy Sané has been backed by Julian Nagelsmann to make amends against Ghana on Monday.
“I don't always expect two goals and three assists, it's about the overall picture. He showed glimpses of what he's capable of," the Germany coach said in his press conference.
“Of course he can play with more intensity and do better, but you have to take his lack of rhythm into account. He will get another chance to do better on Monday,” he added.
With just nine goals for Newcastle this season, Nagelsmann also faced questions as to why Nick Woltemade featured ahead of an in-form Deniz Undav with 23 goals for VfB Stuttgart.
“Nick has a great record with us and isn’t having an easy time at Newcastle right now. Now I’ve got a choice to make.
"Do I continue to boost the confidence of a top striker [Undav] in really good form, or do I drop another top striker [Woltemade] who isn’t quite in such good form at the moment?
“I’d say it’s advisable for Nick Woltemade to get back on track with us, because things aren’t going well at Newcastle at the minute.
"Deniz is on a good run anyway. Whether he would have played today or not, it won’t change his confidence for this week,” he added, before saying he is still undecided.
