“We never gave up, but it wasn’t enough” - Gregoritsch reacts

Michael Gregoritsch did not hold back after FC Augsburg fell 5-2 to VfB Stuttgart, criticizing his side’s defensive mistakes at the WWK Arena.

Following Augsburg’s heavy home defeat, Michael Gregoritsch pointed to a lack of sharpness and poor decision-making, while still finding one small positive in his team’s reaction.

Gregoritsch was clear about where the game was lost: It hurts that we conceded the goals so easily. You can be behind for a few minutes, but today it just wasn’t clever enough from us.”

The striker admitted Stuttgart were the better side, despite Augsburg’s fighting spirit: “We didn’t do well today, we lost 5-2. We showed that we never give up - that’s something positive - but it just wasn’t enough.”

Looking at the bigger picture, Gregoritsch contrasted recent form: “We had a very good February, but against the big teams in March we’ve been really weak.”

The focus now shifts to survival in the Bundesliga: “Our next goal is to secure staying in the league mathematically.”
