Julian Schuster shared his excitement after his side’s excellent 5-1 win over Genk saw the club reach the Europa League quarter-finals. Matthias Ginter, Igor Matanović, Vincenzo Grifo, Yuito Suzuki, and Maximilian Eggestein were all on target in one of the biggest games for the club.

“We experienced a special evening,” said the 40-year-old coach after the game. “The team’s reaction to the recent matches was fantastic. I’m incredibly proud of this achievement.

“There were times when we were happy just to stay in the league or get promoted. Now we can celebrate reaching the Europa League quarterfinals. It’s great that the journey continues.”

Union Berlin ended Freiburg’s 16-game unbeaten home streak last Sunday, but they’re now back on track with a first-ever European quarter-final tie to look forward to against Celta Vigo.
