With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Mario Götze recently revealed that he could see himself staying at Eintracht Frankfurt beyond 2026.

However, a decision on the attacking midfielder’s future is not expected anytime soon, board member for sport Markus Krösche revealed at a press conference on Monday.

“Mario and I recently sat down for a long talk. He is an extremely important part of our team and played a major role in our success over the past few years. Especially for this young squad, he is a key factor because he can share his experience and show that things don’t always go uphill,” Krösche said.

“When he’s on the pitch , he can take us to another level. And he’s still fit and still motivated," he added.

“We agreed to sit down again in the winter and then discuss developments. At the moment, there’s nothing concrete from us, and nothing from Mario’s side either.”

Götze, 33, joined Die Adler in 2022. His contract includes a one-year extension option that Eintracht can choose to activate.
