Separation between Borussia Dortmund and head coach Niko Kovač is not out of the question in summer, Sky Germany reports.

The 53-year-old's contract runs until 2026, but if BVB fail to reach their goals, that could change.

Sky information suggests there is a special severance package included in Kovač's deal.

If Kovač and his assistant coach were to be dismissed, it would cost BVB around €3million in total.

Essentially, if Dortmund were to miss out on European football next season, Kovač is entitled to a severance payment worth 50% of his salary.

The BVB boss currently earns €3-4million per annum and thus more than his predecessor Nuri Sahin.
