With Manuel Neuer having had spells on the sidelines due to injuries this season, Jonas Urbig has been handed more playing time for Bayern Munich and is set to make his 12th appearance of the campaign against Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Bavarians are lining up Urbig to succeed Neuer once the veteran retires, and the 22-year-old could also play a significant role in the German national team in the future.

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann is aware of his potential and, according to Bild, is considering taking Urbig to the World Cup as the third or fourth-choice goalkeeper.

What also speaks in Urbig’s favour is that he has already demonstrated at Bayern that he can perform under pressure and accepts his role as a backup without complaining.

In November, Nagelsmann called up Oliver Baumann, Alexander Nübel, Finn Dahmen, and Noah Atubolu as goalkeepers.
