Stanišic seeking personal revenge against "full throttle" Atalanta side

The Croatian is still nursing the wounds of that 3-0 defeat to the Bergamo club from the Europa League final in Dublin in 2024.

Ahead of Bayern Munich's clash with Atalanta tomorrow evening, Josip Stanišic discussed the squad's build up to the clash in Bergamo.

“The coach hasn't prepared us any differently; we know who we're facing, what we can expect. Not much has changed.

"Atalanta play man-to-man all over the pitch and go full throttle from the first minute. We'll counter that.

“We've been giving it our all and playing man-to-man in every training session for the past year and a half,” he said, at this evening's press conference.

Regarding their opposition, Stanišic is out for revenge. He lost the UEFA Europa League final to Atalanta when on loan at Bayer Leverkusen in 2024 alongside Jonathan Tah.

“Of course, that annoys me; it would have been nice, it was a unique chance. When you're in a final, you want to win.

"We didn't play well back then and let them be all over us from the start. They also had a strong striker who ruthlessly converted every chance [Lookman].

"For me, I absolutely don't want to lose to Atalanta again – and I'm speaking for Jonathan Tah on that as well”

“They're [Atalanta] aggressive from the first second, they never back down and give 100 percent in every challenge.

They also have good individual players and don't rely solely on fighting spirit. Now it's up to us to show in the game what we've prepared," he explained.
