German champions Bayer Leverkusen could strengthen up front before the transfer window closes.

According to Mexican journalists Daniel Reyes Villasenor (of Fox Sports Mexico) and Carlos Reynoso, Leverkusen are investigating the possibility of bringing Mexico international Santiago Gimenez to Germany.

Die Werkself are said to have contacted his club Feyenoord about a possible move.

Gimenez has been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest, who were prepared to meet Feyenoord's €35 million asking price, but has rejected the English Premier League side's interest, according to Villasenor.

His report claims that Gimenez likes the idea of joining Leverkusen, but the German champions will have to wait for another player to be sold to complete the deal.

The 23-year-old striker has scored 53 goals in 90 appearances for Feyenoord.
