Following Germany’s disappointing World Cup exit, Jamal Musiala underwent a procedure to remove a plate from his foot that had been inserted during surgery after the serious injury he suffered last year.

As a result, the 23-year-old is set to miss the start of Bayern’s preparations for the new season, but the procedure should ensure that he no longer has any long-term issues with the foot that affected his entire previous campaign.

According to Kicker, Musiala himself made the decision to undergo the procedure now rather than wait until the winter break.

According to the report, Musiala’s target is to return to team training on August 8 and be fit for Bayern’s first competitive game of the season – the Supercup against Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park on August 22.

The German champions will open their Bundesliga campaign against VfB Stuttgart the following week, on August 28.

Musiala, who will complete his rehabilitation programme at Säbener Straße in Munich, is expected to resume work on July 31 after being granted a few extra days of holiday.
