According to Sport Bild, Tuchel personally called Weigl to convince him to join PSG. The 23-year-old didn't get to play much during the first half of the season and thus wanted to make the move.
"Sportingly, the most difficult half-season of my career is behind me. Being fit and hardly needed wasn't a good feeling," Weigl said in an interview with Sport Bild and added:
"When Paris showed an interest in me before the second half of the season, I naturally thought about my future. I wanted to improve my sporting situation. And that I can work well under Thomas Tuchel is no secret. I communicated my thoughts to those responsible at BVB."
However, Weigl was informed that he wouldn't be allowed to leave - and he has accepted that decision.
"I had to accept that those responsible didn't want to let me go. Now, I fully concentrate on being successful with BVB," Weigl said before expressing satisfaction with the fact that he has started three games in a row:
"Currently, I feel much better than in the first half of the season. I can contribute to the team, play my part in the success and show what I can do," Weigl explained.
