Werder boss Frank Baumann backs Florian Kohfeldt to turn things around

Werder boss Frank Baumann remains confident that Florian Kohfeldt is the right man to take the club forward.
Werder Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann has backed head coach Florian Kohfeldt to lead the team out of their slump.

'The Green-Whites' sit 14th in the Bundesliga table after Sunday's 0-1 defeat to Paderborn, and while Baumann admits things must improve, he has full faith in Kohfeldt who extended his contract until 2023 in the summer.

"We know that we have a very good coach who may have been noticed by other clubs. We have great confidence in Florian's words - regardless of the duration of the contract. He has told us that he wants to build something here. He will do so in the coming years," Baumann told Die Welt.

"Florian has unbelievable expertise and is very good at communicating, both in good and bad phases. I find it remarkable how he has dealt with the team and publicly defended a few players during this stage. That has a very, very big effect on the team.

"We need to concentrate on what is essential, to stay calm and believe in our strengths. We have to deal with why we don't live up to our potential, not only as a team, but on a personal level as well. I see the coach and the team as very self-critical," the Werder boss said.

Kohfeldt's troops have won just one of their last 10 Bundesliga games. In their next game, they face reigning champions Bayern München at Allianz Arena on Saturday.
