Borussia Dortmund's Mario Götze was subject to a lot of criticism last season as he wasn't able to replicate the performances he showed earlier in his career.

Now, the former Bayern München player receives back-up from his little brother, FC Augsburg's Felix Götze, who feels his brother was unfairly branded as a scapegoat.

"Mario certainly didn't show his best performances last season, but he was not the only one in Dortmund who didn't. The fact that he was so often the centre of attention as the personification of Dortmund's crisis was just not fair in my opinion," Felix Götze told t-online.de and added:

"If Mario plays a strong season at the BVB, he will certainly be back as an integral part of the national team."

Felix Götze, 20, has joined FC Augsburg from Bayern München on a free transfer this summer.
