Julian Nagelsmann calls for change in mentality from RB Leipzig youngsters

RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann has called for the club's under-19 players to show a change in mentality if they want to take the next step.
RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann says the club's youth players need to show the right mentality if they are to challenge for the first team.

18-year-old Joscha Wosz was handed his professional debut in RB Leipzig's last Bundesliga game against Schalke 04 earlier this month. Because, in contrast to many others in the U19 team, the midfielder 'wants to win,' claims the Leipzig coach.

"As a young player, you have to go to the dressing room with the professionals, change your clothes and give everything you've got on the pitch. Not everything has to be right. It doesn't have to be technically or tactically perfect – but you need to show that you have the right mentality. Not everyone does that," Nagelsmann said ahead of Saturday's game against Augsburg, according to Bild.

"I'll give a player a run in the team much, much faster if he has a top mentality than if he has super quality. If he doesn't have this mentality, the pros will eat him up. But if he runs like a maniac and tears himself apart, he will be forgiven for a bad pass. If you show the will to win, you will get more playing time.

"If a youth player comes into the professional team, they must want to tear the world down. However, that's not always given here."
