Eintracht Frankfurt
Frankfurt are sitting in seventh spot and one point outside the top six after winning six, drawing three and losing four of their 13 league games this season. Die Adler have gone four competitive matches without a win since recording consecutive wins over Mainz 05 and Köln.
That poor run of form started with a 3-0 loss to Atalanta in the Champions League, before they rescued a 1-1 draw from their home league game against Wolfsburg. Frankfurt were then comfortably beaten in last Saturday’s forgettable away outing against RB Leipzig, which saw them fall to a heavy 6-0 defeat at the Red Bull Arena.
Dino Toppmöller’s side at least managed to put up more of a fight in their midweek Champions League game against Barcelona. Ansgar Knauff gave die Adler a half-time lead at Camp Nou, only for Jules Kounde to net a second-half brace to turn the game in Barcelona’s favour. As a result, Frankfurt are sitting in 30th place and three points adrift of the top 24 with just two league phase games left to play.
Frankfurt will now return to the familiar surroundings of Deutsche Bank Park, where they have avoided defeat in each of their last six home meetings with Augsburg (W3, D3). Not only will they be looking for a positive result, but the hosts will also be keen to produce a strong defensive display, considering they currently have the league’s worst defensive record with 29 goals conceded.
Team News
The hosts are unable to call upon the forward duo of Michy Batshuayi and Jonathan Burkardt due to injury.
Predicted lineup: Zetterer; Kristensen, Koch, Theate; Doan, Skhiri, Larsson, Brown; Götze, Chaïbi; Knauff
Augsburg
Augsburg are currently searching for a new permanent head coach after relieving Sandro Wagner of his duties earlier this month. Wagner, who was appointed in the summer, was dismissed after overseeing eight defeats in 12 Bundesliga matches (W3, L1).
The 38-year-old may have lost 3-0 away to Hoffenheim in his final match, but he did pick up a 1-0 victory in his last home game as Augsburg boss. That result gave the Fuggerstädter the chance to record back-to-back home wins in last Saturday’s home against Bayer Leverkusen. Augsburg, under the watch of interim boss Manuel Baum, rose to the challenge to claim a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Dimitris Giannoulis and Anton Kade.
While they have won consecutive home games without conceding, the 14th-placed cannot afford to rest on their laurels with just two points separating them from the bottom three. Their hopes of adding to their points tally on Saturday may be tempered by the fact that they have lost four of their previous five away games.
If they are to claim their second away league win of the season, Augsburg will have to beat Frankfurt at Deutsche Bank Park for the first time since April 2019.
Team News
Augsburg remain without Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, who will not play again in 2025 due to a knee injury.
Predicted lineup: Dahmen; Banks, Matsima, Schlotterbeck; Fellhauer, Jakić, Massengo, Giannoulis; Rieder, Claude-Maurice; Kade
