Lothar Matthäus: 'I'm convinced that Julian Nagelsmann will be Hansi Flick's successor'

Julian Nagelsmann is in line to replace Hansi Flick as Bayern München coach, according to Lothar Matthäus.
Lothar Matthäus is 'convinced' that Julian Nagelsmann will leave RB Leipzig to succeed Hansi Flick as Bayern München coach.

Speaking after Saturday's win over Wolfsburg, Flick announced that he wishes to leave Bayern this summer, just as Matthäus predicted in an interview with Sky earlier this week.

In the same interview, Matthäus claimed that Bayern have lined up RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann as Flick's replacement.

Nagelsmann, who is still under contract until 2023, has since denied any contact with Bayern, but Matthäus is in no doubt that the 33-year-old will take the reins at Allianz Arena this summer.

"Of course, FC Bayern did not talk to Julian Nagelsmann directly, but they have opened talks with Julian Nagelsmann's side. I still stand by that today," Matthäus told Sky.

"I am convinced that Julian Nagelsmann will be Hansi Flick's successor," added the former German international.

"He wants to take the next step."
