Dedryck Boyata remains Hertha's captain

Dedryck Boyata has been confirmed as Hertha BSC's captain for the new season.
Hertha BSC coach Pal Dardai has confirmed that he will stick with Dedryck Boyata as his captain for the 2021/22 season.

After a spell on the sidelines, however, Boyata is not yet fit to start in Sunday's DFB-Pokal against 3. Liga side Meppen, which will see Niklas Stark wear the captain's armband in his absence.

"Dedryck Boyata remains our captain. He has the necessary charisma, the boys listen to him," Dardai told reporters at a press conference today.

"But he won't start at the weekend, that would be too early. 'Nik' Stark is a fantastic defender and our second captain."

Boyata has played for Hertha since 2019 and has one year left on his current contract with the capital club.
