Nübel on his Bayern future: "As long as Neuer is there, it makes no sense for me to return"

Alexander Nübel has reflected on his future at Bayern Munich, saying it would make no sense to return from his loan spell at VfB Stuttgart as long as Manuel Neuer is still playing.

Back in April, Bayern Munich revealed a contract extension for Alexander Nübel until 2029 and also announced that the goalkeeper will remain on loan at Stuttgart until 2026.

When asked about his future with the Bavarians at a press conference on Wednesday, the 27-year-old said it doesn't make sense for him to return as long as Manuel Neuer is still playing for the Bavarians.

"I am looking forward to next year in Stuttgart. Time will tell what happens after that. Obviously, as long as 'Manu' [Neuer] is there, it makes no sense for me to come back to Munich," Nubel, who spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Stuttgart, told reporters.

“He is definitely a role model for me. What he has done for Germany is unbelievable. Manu has taken goalkeeping to a new level. I'm looking forward to training with him here. Our relationship is collegial and friendly.”

Neuer, 38, is under contract with Bayern until 2025.
