After 25 years at Bayern Munich, where he won 13 Bundesliga titles, 2 UEFA Champions League titles and even the FIFA World Cup with Germany, Thomas Müller has officially announced the newest chapter and club in his career: Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the MLS.

Müller talked about what he wants to achieve with his 2nd ever professional football club:

“I’m looking forward to coming to Vancouver to help this team win a championship!”

“I’ve heard great things about the city, but first and foremost I’m coming to win. I’ve had great conversations with Axel Schuster and Jesper Sørensen, and now I can’t wait to play in front of the supporters and to see all of the fans come out to BC Place as we head towards the playoffs.”

Müller has initially signed with Alphonso Davies' former club until the end of the year, including an option to become a designated player from 2026.

However, he is not expected to play until mid- to late August, as details regarding his personal sponsorships still need to be clarified. Until then, he will keep fit at his home club Bayern Munich.

Axel Schuster, CEO and sporting director of the Vancouver club, also commented on the historic transfer:

Thomas is a world-class player - the ultimate space interpreter ["Raumdeuter"] - known for his outstanding chance creation, unmatched spatial awareness, and tireless movement without the ball.”

"He not only brings winning qualities and exceptional soccer intelligence to the table, but also a tireless work ethic that will drive the entire team forward. Thomas is a natural leader whose passion for soccer is contagious. This signing is a clear sign for our club and our owners - a pivotal moment for our club and our city. We are proud to welcome Thomas to Vancouver."

“Der Raumdeuter” will wear the number 13 for the Whitecaps, as he already did when playing for Germany. This was seen in the announcement video on his personal Instagram account.
