Röhl linked with move to Liverpool

Liverpool are reportedly interested in SC Freiburg's Merlin Röhl.

Merlin Röhl signed a new contract with SC Freiburg last week. Despite this, it's not certain that he will stay with the club beyond the end of the season.

According to Bild, Liverpool are interested in the 22-year-old and could make a move for him next summer.

By extending Röhl's contract, Freiburg have put themselves in a better negotiating position.

The Reds are said to have been scouting Röhl, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, for some time.

The attacking midfielder joined Freiburg from Ingolstadt two years ago for just under 3 million.

After Röhl extended his contract, Freiburg board member for sport Jochen Saier said he believes the midfielder has “undergone a positive development at the highest level.”

“He has been able to demonstrate his qualities as a footballer and his intelligence as a player in various positions and is an important part of our team.”
