Selke set for Bundesliga return?

Davie Selke has been one of the most important players in Hamburg's quest of finally returning to the Bundesliga. While HSV's chances to succeed seem to be better than ever right now, Selke himself could be looking to make his comeback to the 1st division with an already established Bundesliga club.

Could we see Davie Selke back in the Bundesliga in 2025/26? The answer to that question looks clearer with every passing day. Not only does it seem like Selke's club HSV are finally getting back into Germany's 1st division (currently ranked 1st after 26 played games), Selke himself has caught the attention of an established Bundesliga club.

The 30-year-old is having a great season in Hamburg: 17 goals in 24 games make him the best goalscorer in the 2. Bundesliga. HSV quickly saw Selke's important role in their squad and wanted to extend his contract - but the talks have not come to a conclusion yet.

“Davie has said on multiple occasions how comfortable he feels in Hamburg”, said HSV coach Merlin Polzin about his striker.

BILD, however, report that the interested Bundesliga club is ready to bump up Selke's salary by 50% - he'd earn beyond €2 million, which could be the deciding factor for Selke in the end.

Selke, who already played (and scored) in the Bundesliga for Hertha, Bremen, Leipzig and Köln, will definitely play Bundesliga football once again next season - it just remains to be seen if he'll continue to make HSV fans happy or if he maybe even comes up against them in 2025/26.
