Reports: Bochum and St. Pauli take interest in Croatian defender Medic

Germany's main sporting tabloid reports that VfL Bochum are interested in bringing Croatian defender Jakov Medic back to German football.

The 25-year-old Ajax professional has also been linked with a loan move back to his former club FC St. Pauli.

VfL Bochum reportedly have a preferred candidate in mind to replace soon-to-depart defender Bernardo. The 2023/24 German Bundesliga promotion relegation playoff winners, per Sky Germany, are interested in signing Croatian central defender/sweeper Jakov Medic from Ajax. The 25-year-old wasn't able to crack the first team for 1. FC Nürnberg after signing some six years ago, but did accrue a great deal of second and third tier experience for German clubs SV  Wehen Wiesbaden and FC St. Pauli.

Medic moved to Ajax from St. Pauli last summer for a reported €3 million transfer fee, yet made only six Erdevisie appearances last year. The German pay TV channel reports that Bochum - who have made a number of high profile signings this summer - have opened up talks with the Dutch outfit over a purchase. Medic maintains an estimated market worth of €2 million. There is also some chatter in German footballing rumor mills about a potential loan-out back to St. Pauli. Medic's current contract in Holland runs through 2028.
