There has been ongoing speculation about Leon Goretzka’s future at Bayern Munich for a while now.

However, following João Palhinha’s loan move to Tottenham, a summer exit for the 30-year-old midfielder now appears off the table.

With Aleksandar Pavlović sidelined by a fractured eye socket, Goretzka is expected to start the new season alongside Joshua Kimmich in central midfield for the German champions.

Still, questions remain over Goretzka’s long-term future in Munich.

While the player himself has shown little desire to leave, it’s unclear whether Bayern will try to extend his contract, which runs until 2026.

“If your own club offers you a new contract, that’s a sign of appreciation. So of course, you listen to that,” Goretzka said during the Club World Cup.

“So far, nothing has come. For now, that’s fine with me.”
