Speculation over Nick Woltemade’s Newcastle United future has recently been fuelled by reports falsely citing The Athletic as claiming that the German international had been given permission to leave the club on loan this summer.

The rumour appears to have originated from an X account impersonating The Athletic reporter David Ornstein.

The Athletic journalist Seb Stafford-Bloor has since addressed the claims on X, highlighting the “false attributed stories” circulating about Woltemade’s future and playing down the reports.

“Lots of falsely attributed stories about Nick Woltemade's future are going around,” Stafford-Bloor wrote.

“He's joining Newcastle's pre-season today and preparing for the season ahead.”

Woltemade joined Newcastle from VfB Stuttgart for €75 million last summer and is under contract with the Premier League club until 2031.
