Semih Sahin and Naatan Skyttä scored in injury-time to help Kaiserslautern beat Hannover 3-1 as the hosts climbed to fifth place at the expense of their guests. Substitutes from either team were decisive in turning the game after a quiet first-half.

The visitors broke the deadlock when their captain Enzo Leopold finished off a counterattacking move he started in the 67th minute. However, they were reduced to ten when substitute Waniss Taibi was sent off for two bookable offenses.

Torsten Lieberknecht’s decision to introduce Ivan Prtajin and Sahin at the hour mark eventually paid off for the hosts. The former scored the equalizer before the red card, while Sahin was directly involved in both of the injury-time goals after causing Leopold’s sending off.

Kaiserslautern replaced Hannover in fifth place, and they’re only four points off the second automatic promotion spot. They will face league leaders Schalke on matchday 19, while Hannover host relegation-thretened Fortuna Düsseldorf.
