After an intense 1-1 Champions League round of 16 clash with Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen now turn their attention to another top opponent, with Die Werkself facing Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga on Saturday before their return leg in London next week.
In an effort to keep his squad fresh, Bayer Leverkusen coach Kasper Hjulmand could make several changes – but whether that is actually his intention is unclear.
“Of course I have a plan,” Hjulmand said at a press conference on Friday.
“This game is very important. In the following match against Arsenal, we have the chance to achieve something extraordinary. That is a big focus. Of course, our third game against Heidenheim (on March 21) is also very important."
Pressed about possibly resting some starters from the Arsenal match, the Dane remained tight-lipped.
“We’ll see tomorrow,” said the 53-year-old, who is looking forward to facing another top team.
“We have the opportunity to deliver a top performance against a top team. For us, it’s always best to play against the best.”
In terms of absences, Arthur (ankle), Loic Badé (thigh), Eliesse Ben Seghir (ankle), and Lucas Vázquez (calf) are all sidelined with injuries, while Alex Grimaldo is suspended.
