Bayer Leverkusen won the Bundesliga for the first time in the 2023/24 season — and the club's CEO, Fernando Carro, is determined to do it again in a not too distant future.

Speaking to Sport Bild, Carro said he wants the club to lift the German top-flight trophy again in “2028 or 2029.”

At present, however, Die Werkself are a long way from that goal, sitting sixth in the league – 22 points behind leaders Bayern Munich, who themselves are 11 points clear of closest challengers Borussia Dortmund.

“It pains me that Bayern dominates the league so much,” Carro admitted.

“Of course, they have three times our budget, but over the years they have done a lot of good work. Still, we have to try to make life difficult for them. We succeeded in doing that in 2024.”
