Dayot Upamecano and Bayern Munich have been negotiating a contract extension beyond 2026 a while now, but a full agreement is still not in sight, although the two sides appear to be getting closer.

According to Bild, the parties are nearly in agreement on the player’s base salary, but one major hurdle remains: the signing bonus that Upamecano is demanding.

When Alphonso Davies extended his contract in February, he received a signing bonus of €17 million. Upamecano is reportedly seeking a similar amount, but Bayern are unwilling to meet that demand.

Whether an agreement will eventually be reached remains unclear. The longer negotiations drag on, the greater the risk that Bayern could lose the Frenchman on a free transfer in the summer of 2026.

Clubs such as Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are reportedly keeping a close eye on the situation.
