Aurelio Buta’s proposed move to Panathinaikos has collapsed, although Eintracht Frankfurt and the Greek club reached an initial agreement.

According to Greek outlet Sport24 and German tabloid Bild, the deal fell through at the final hurdle.

Bild reports that Buta had already travelled to Athens to undergo his medical when Panathinaikos attempted to renegotiate the transfer fee, citing concerns over a knee operation the player underwent during the 2021/22 season.

However, both Eintracht and Buta’s camp refused to accept any last-minute changes to the deal, stressing that the 28-year-old is fully fit. He ultimately returned to Germany.

With the move off, Buta’s future remains unresolved. Union Berlin and Hamburger SV are reportedly interested, while a return to France, where he spent last season on loan at Stade Reims, is another possibility.
