The 33-year-old marksman could yet make his return to the Bundesliga with the Autostadt club popping up as a possible destination.

Sky Germany understands that VfL Wolfsburg are once again interested in Niclas Füllkrug, who is currently on loan at AC Milan.

The Serie A side will not exercise their €5million purchase option for Füllkrug, meaning he will initially return to West Ham United in summer.

However, the former Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund striker no longer has a realistic future at the London club either.

Furthermore, with West Ham currently sat just two points above the drop zone, he would face a 50 percent pay cut if they are relegated.

It's a similar story for Wolfsburg and whether they would be an option should they even manage to avoid Bundesliga relegation.

The Lower Saxony outfit were even regarded as the favourites to land the big marksman in early December, prior to AC Milan's interest.

So there are still quite a few open questions to be answered before Füllkrug's return to Germany could become a concrete possibility.

At a period in time, it's believed the 33-year-old was even considering a return to the banks of the Weser with his ex-club Bremen
