On Sunday, Mainz bid farewell to Daniel Batz, Maxim Leitsch, Niklas Tauer, and Armindo Sieb on the occasion of the club’s last home game of the season. The absence of two names in the list further indicates things are going well with some negotiations for contract extensions.

While Borussia Mönchengladbach-bound goalkeeper Batz decided against staying, the captain Silvan Widmer and Stefan Bell are set to sign new contracts. The news that the different parties entered contract talks only came at the beginning of last week.

According to Kicker and Sky, both negotiations are currently at the finishing lines. "We are in very good conversations with great mutual appreciation," Bell’s adviser Ingo Haspel explained the situation of the 34-year-old center-back on Sunday.

Apart from loans at 1860 Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt, Bell has been with the 05ers since 2007. Widmer redeemed himself since the arrival of Urs Fischer as the 33-year-old fullback is now a key member of the team.
