Chema Andrés’ second-half header made the difference as VfB Stuttgart claimed their first Bundesliga win of the season, edging Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-0 at the MHPArena on Saturday.

The victory marked an important step forward for Stuttgart after a hectic week that included a DFB-Pokal penalty shootout triumph over Eintracht Braunschweig and the sale of star striker Nick Woltemade to Newcastle United.

In a post-match interview, Stuttgart left-back Maximilian Mittelstädt shared his thoughts on the game and praised the home fans.

“Gladbach demanded a lot from us, but we managed to take the game our way and are delighted with the win,” Mittelstädt said.

“It has been a very intense week, both physically and mentally. Nevertheless, we were on the pitch with the necessary freshness and alert from the very start,” he added.

“From my perspective, today’s result is a team success, one that we earned also through our defensive performance. The fans’ choreography gave me goosebumps – it was incredible what they put on. That gave us the final extra percent we needed to win.”
