Former RB Leipzig, Schalke 04, Mainz 05, and Werder Bremen boss Rouven Schröder could be set for a return to the German Bundesliga.

According to Bild, Borussia Mönchengladbach have identified the 49-year-old as their top candidate to replace Roland Virkus, who recently resigned as head of sport.

Schröder is reportedly eager to take the role, and negotiations are already underway.

The only potential stumbling block is that Schröder is currently under contract as sporting managing director at RB Salzburg, meaning Gladbach would likely have to pay a compensation fee to the Austrian club.

Schröder has been serving as Salzburg’s sporting managing director since December 2024.
