Borussia Mönchengladbach have confirmed the signing of Yannik Engelhardt on loan from Como.

The 24-year-old midfielder returns to Germany just a year after joining Como from Fortuna Düsseldorf for a reported €8 million.

“I’ve dreamed of playing in the Bundesliga since I was a little boy,” Engelhardt said.

“To be able to fulfill that dream now at Borussia makes me very happy. Borussia is a big club with a strong presence, a huge fanbase, and a fantastic stadium. The decision was really easy for me.”

Borussia’s managing director for sport, Roland Virkus, added:

“Yannik Engelhardt is a player whose development we’ve been following for a long time. His profile covers nearly every position in the defensive line. The opportunity to bring him in on a one-year loan arose quickly, and we’re very pleased that he chose Borussia.”

Engelhardt’s arrival clears the path for Julian Weigl to move to Al Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia.
