RB Leipzig left Stuttgart frustrated after a narrow defeat in what captain Willi Orbán described as a high-level Bundesliga clash between two top sides: “It was a tight game between two top teams,” Orbán said after the match. “It was fun to play, but it’s frustrating that we didn’t reward ourselves for our good moments today.”
Both teams created opportunities throughout the match, and Leipzig had spells where they looked capable of taking control. However, the visitors were ultimately unable to turn those promising phases into goals.
Defender David Raum echoed Orbán’s assessment and emphasised how small margins often determine matches of this level: “In top games, small details and sometimes a bit of luck decide things,” Raum said.
The German international felt that Leipzig produced several strong passages of play but ultimately lacked the decisive moment needed to change the outcome: “We had many good phases in the game, Stuttgart as well. Matches like this often end in a draw.”
Instead, the game swung on a handful of key moments, including the decisive error that led to Stuttgart’s winning goal.
“But without blaming the players who made the decisive mistake, today small details simply decided the game,” Raum added. “In the end we didn’t reward ourselves for our performance.”
Raum also briefly addressed the upcoming announcement of the German national team squad but insisted his focus remains on the intense closing phase of the season.
“I haven’t really thought about the Germany squad announcement yet,” he said. “We’re in a very hot phase of the season and that’s where my focus is.”
For the Leipzig defender, the priority is clear. “I just try to stay fit. If I get nominated, of course I’ll be happy.”
Meanwhile, Orbán was asked about his long-term future at the club but remained relaxed about the situation: “I can’t say much about my contract,” he explained. “Basically, I love playing football and I also love playing here.”
With a year and a half remaining on his current deal, the Leipzig captain suggested there is no urgency surrounding the decision.
“There is no pressure on the topic. I still have 1.5 years left on my contract, then we’ll see,” Orbán said. “These decisions always depend on many people.”
For now, however, Leipzig’s focus remains on bouncing back quickly after a match that left them feeling they deserved more.
