Sven Ulreich reflects on tough night as Bayern drew with Leverkusen

Here are the comments from Bayern's third goalkeeper Sven Ulreich, who stepped into the Bavarian goal after more than one year of absence.

Sven Ulreich admitted FC Bayern Munich struggled to find their rhythm in Saturday’s dramatic 1-1 draw with Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

The Bayern goalkeeper also revealed he felt some discomfort late in the match but hopes the issue is not serious.

“I felt something a little bit towards the end,” Ulreich said after the game. “I hope it’s nothing serious.”

Ulreich acknowledged that Bayern found it difficult to get into the match after conceding an early goal, with the situation becoming even more complicated after the Bavarians were reduced to ten men.

“We struggled to get into the game and conceded early,” he explained. “The red card made things even harder for us.”

Despite producing several important saves to keep Bayern in the contest, the experienced goalkeeper admitted the team had hoped for more from the match.

“Of course it was nice for me personally to make a few saves, but we wanted to win here today and we didn’t manage that,” he said.

Ulreich also suggested the team could have defended better, revealing that head coach Vincent Kompany was not pleased with certain moments in Bayern’s defensive performance.

“We should have defended some situations better. The coach wasn’t happy with us there.”
