Gosens to Union fans: "No need for me to list reasons."

After a sudden and unexpected turn-of-events led to him going from the 1. FC Union Berlin starting XI to the ACF Fiorentina club headquarters yesterday, German national team left fullback/winger Robin Gosens has addressed FCU fans on his social media feed.

The 30-year-old offered a strange explanation for his move, actually claiming that he didn't wish to explain anything. Meanwhile, Union skipper Rani Khedira shed a little more light on what happened Friday in his post-match interview following the narrow win over St. Pauli.

In a move reminiscent of Max Kruse's statement to Union Berlin fans some two-and-a-half years ago, German national team fullback Robin Gosens was put in the position of offering up an explanation to 1. FC Union Berlin fans after a sudden unexpected turn-of-events saw him leave the club at the absolute last moment. Speaking to the DAZN microphones last night, Union's skipper for last night's match Rani Khedira also shed some light on what happened.

"It was a crazy development for us as a team," Khedira noted in his post-match interview, "We were prepared to play with Robin. He [Robin] was in total disarray. Before lunch, he was assuming that he would play. Then came the call after his nap that all of this was going down."

Having had a chance to catch up on some sleep following last night's late unveiling, Gosens himself composed a statement to Union fans on his instagram feed. The overall tone of the post was actually quite different from that of Jonathan Tah's letter to Leverkusen fans following his own hectic final transfer window hours.

Gosens began awkwardly:

“Where do one start when one isn't seeking to explain away something, but merely needs get something off one's chest?"

Dear Union fans,

“I know what many of you are probably thinking; Namely, that he always wanted to leave and has now done so. There's talk about that everywhere. That's why I don't wish to offer up explanations.”

"I just want to say that I loved going to the Alte Försterei every day. I loved every second of tearing myself apart for this club. In particular, the home finale [in which we saved ourselves from relegation] was probably one of the most emotional things I've ever experienced in football.?

“Life sometimes forces you to make difficult decisions. Leaving the club, on the final day of the transfer window no less, was one such decision. But I stand behind this decision. To list the reasons for it would only lead to me appearing to make excuses, and I don't want that."

"Thanks to all who helped me achieve my lifelong dream of playing in the Bundesliga. My time with Union was a great privilege."
