Anselmo Garcia MacNulty is close to joining 1. FC Magdeburg as a free agent. Sky report the 2. Bundesliga club beat competition from Italy and the Netherlands to secure the free transfer of the Irish center-back.

MacNulty joined Wolfsburg’s youth ranks in 2019, but he departed the club at the end of his contract to join PEC Zwolle without making a single appearance for the first team. Similarly, his next transfer will be as a free agent, although he has been a key player for the Eredivisie side.

The Seville-born defender represented the Republic of Ireland at the U21 level. Sky reported that negotiations between the player and Magdeburg are at an advanced stage, with the transfer imminent. Magdbeurg finished 14th in the 2025/26 season.
