After finishing sixth in the 2024/25 season, Mainz have had a disappointing start to their 2025/26 campaign and currently sit second from bottom after 10 Bundesliga games.

Jonathan Burkardt, who left Mainz for Eintracht Frankfurt over the summer, sympathises with his former club and hopes Bo Henriksen’s side can turn things around.

“I wish the club all the best because I had a great time there, and I hope they manage to get out of this situation,” Burkardt told the Frankfurter Rundschau and Funke Mediengruppe.

“The team has more quality than the league table reflects,” added the German international.

“In the end, all that matters is getting out of that position, and for that, I’m keeping my fingers crossed."
