Nathan Ake is currently playing his sixth season at Manchester City but could be on his way out of the club, according to Sportsboom.

The 30-year-old central defender is looking for a new challenge this summer and he has interest from, among other leagues, in the Bundesliga.

Despite recent praise, the Citizens want to rejuvenate their squad, even if on the pitch Ake is a key player for Pep Guardiola's side.

The report suggests Bayer Leverkusen could bolster their defense and the Dutchman would become a big leader for the Rhinelanders.

Furthermore, the pressure on the young defense which includes Jarell Quansah, Tim Oermann and Axel Tape, would be reduced.

Ake would solve a big problem at once given he would bring much-needed experience in European competitions with him.

However, Leverkusen are not alone in their pursuit of the 30-year-old with La Liga giants Atlético Madrid also monitoring his situation.

With just five center-backs, Atlético's defense is very thin. Furthermore, Jose Gimenez, has had a bad run of injuries recently limiting his playing time.

Therefore, if an offer were to come in this summer, Atlético could announce a new and straightforward addition in Ake.
