Lewandowski and Goretzka have both picked up knocks while Kimmich is awaiting the birth of his third child.
"We have to see how Lewandowski's rib reacts. We're not going to take any risks. I assume that he will be in the squad, but the question is how long he can play for," Nagelsmann told reporters at the pre-match press conference.
"Goretzka has a bit of a reaction in his hip, but otherwise he's trained really well and I'd happily let him play, but we have to wait and see.
"I told 'Josh' [Kimmich] that he can travel to Freiburg if everything remains quiet. He trained extremely well yesterday. We hope that the child will be born healthy, and we also hope Josh will be able to play tomorrow. The birth comes first."
Even if Goretzka has suffered a minor setback, Nagelsmann is still hoping to have the midfielder available for the first time in 2022.
Meanwhile, Niklas Süle is expected to be back from a muscle injury, but Alphonso Davies will need a bit more time to work his way back to full fitness after a long spell on the sidelines.
"Alphonso Davies should be available again for the second leg against Villarreal. Goretzka will hopefully return tomorrow as well as Süle," said Nagelsmann.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will certainly miss the game due to COVID-19.
