Lennart Karl took an encouraging step forward in his recovery from a muscle fibre tear on Monday, returning to training with the ball and completing a 30-minute individual session.

According to Bild, there is hope of having the 18-year-old available for the first leg of Bayern Munich’s Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain next week.

However, at a press conference on Tuesday, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany was cautious about rushing expectations regarding Karl’s return.

“He has to come back fit now, that’s the priority,” Kompany said, adding:

It's now the phase of the season where the prizes are at stake. We're not going to take many risks now.

Reintegration is a bit more spontaneous. But first he has to get fit, we're not going to do anything faster than his body says. Although he is important for us!"

Karl is definitely ruled out of Bayern’s DFB-Pokal semi-final against Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday.

The Bavarians are also currently without Tom Bischof and Serge Gnabry due to injury.
