About two and a half years ago, rumors circulated that Borussia Dortmund wanted to sign Napoli's Marek Hamsik.

Now, the Slovakian international has confirmed that he almost ended up joining the Bundesliga club.

"I almost ended up in Dortmund and negotiated with the club, that's true," Hamsik told Sport Bild and continued:

"I was told that the club had to sell some players before they could get me. That went on until August. At the time, I had already begun the pre-season wth Napoli and didn't want to move."

At Dortmund, Hamsik was supposed to replace Henrikh Mkhitaryan who had left the club to join Manchester United.
