Ilkay Gündogan has closed the door on a return to his former club Borussia Dortmund this summer.

At a press conference today, the out-of-contract Manchester City midfielder confirmed that talks were held between Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl and his representative.

However, he insisted that a return to Borussia Dortmund was never really under consideration.

"There was contact, I can tell you that much. Not with me personally, but between Sebastian Kehl and my agent. Of course I have a strong connection with BVB. The fact that there were rumors did not surprise me. But to be honest, the probability was not that high. A return to the Bundesliga is not a big issue for me," the Germany midfielder told reporters ahead of tomorrow's friendly against Colombia.

Gündogan added that he has yet to make a decision on his future, with Arsenal and Barcelona reportedly interested and a contract extension with Manchester City also a possibility.
